Janine & Omar

June 2027

Our Story

From the moment we met, on a blind date on a wintery Auckland night, we knew this could be something special.

Fast-forward two years, ten countries, and more Ponsonby Crêpes than we care to admit – Omar got down on one knee in Colombia, and Janine said yes.

Now we’re heading to paradise to make it official, and we’d love for you to be there to celebrate with us.

Why Bali?

Omar giving Janine a piggyback on the beach

Our wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring together all the people we love. Selfishly, we want to stretch that beyond the few short hours that a traditional wedding at home would give us.

That’s why we’ve chosen to celebrate our wedding in Bali and take the opportunity to spend meaningful time with the people we love. Being able to gather, connect, and celebrate together in such a beautiful setting means the world to us.

We know it’s an effort to get to, but we can promise paradise once you’re there! We can’t wait to host you, share this place with you, and create unforgettable memories on our special day(s).

The Wedding Party

Bridespeeps

Graham Parker

Graham Parker

Gay, opinionated, unofficial hype person. Janine’s personal curator of art, houses, interior design and wedding (you’re welcome). I guide, I edit, I approve.

Angela Lees

Angela Lees

Gym buddy? Check. Dog wrangler? Check. Therapist, travel buddy, and part-time document forger? Obviously. The Swiss Army knife of friendship now comes in bridesmaid edition.

Julie Lovell-Smith

Julie Lovell-Smith

Friends with Janine since the time she let some random homeless teenager stay in her house for “a night” (spoiler alert: Janine didn’t leave).

Also the only one of us who’s done this before – we’re expecting Julie to keep the day on track and the bride sober for the ceremony. Sober-ish.

Groomsmen

Boris Henriquez

Boris Henriquez

My big brother. A true, old-fashioned gentleman of a kind that rarely exists anymore. Handsome inside and out. My lifelong anchor. I’m honoured to have the man who’s always held me up standing by me on our most special day. The ultimate Best Man and a very eligible bachelor.

César Quintero

César Quintero

A man with a massive heart and a famously spicy, irreverent sense of humour. César was Omar’s rock during the tough times in Auckland, staying loyal through every “version” of himself. A music lover and rising DJ – keep an ear out for his wedding set – he is a kind, loyal, and indispensable Groomsman.

Giovanni Omar Barragán

Giovanni Omar Barragán

A man of style – sophisticated, mild-mannered, yet incredibly fun. He is the ultimate self-made Colombian, embodying hard work and deep-rooted values. We see eye-to-eye on the fitness grind and the daily hustle. With a big heart and serious skills in the kitchen, he’s a Groomsman of true substance.

Dominic Sutton

Dominic Sutton

Smooth, clever, and refreshingly drama-free, Dom is also my buddy for overseas adventures. He works hard, parties harder, and never says more than he needs to. If his arms look impossibly large in photos, don’t worry – the lens isn’t distorted; he’s just that big. The ultimate cool Groomsman.

The Celebrant & MC

Roy Crane

Roy Crane – Celebrant

Roy has known Omar and Janine since the infamous Croatia Cruise that they went on after mere weeks of dating.

We’re a little scared what might come out of his mouth on the day…

Alan Grainger

Alan Grainger – MC

Janine's younger older brother, business partner of fame and renown, and the person who has been her rock, both professionally and personally – we wouldn't be here today without him. Alan will ringlead on the night, ensure we stick to the programme(ish) and maybe bring some light roasting along the way.

The Families

The Grainger family

The Grainger Clan

Parents Christine and Murray; older brother Bradley with his wife Susan and kids Linnea and Clark; younger older brother Alan with Boey, Coden and Damian.

You’ll quickly see where Janine gets her height, fast speech and questionable sense of humour from.

Asked & Answered

We know this is a big trip with a lot of logistics, so we’ve added some information below to answer questions you may have! We'll send more info closer to the time, but sing out with any pressing questions we haven't covered.

Step 1: Fly to Bali
From NZ you will fly into Bali Denpasar (DPS). The Air NZ direct flight arrives at 4.20pm, and if you do your e-Visa and immigration in advance (see below) you should be through before 5pm.

Step 2: Taxi to Bali Beach Glamping
Uber is available in Bali, but you will have cheaper pricing and more options if you download Grab or Gojek. Or, arrange a driver in advance – the resort can give you a driver’s details and you’ll pay a set rate of 350,000 (NZ$35) to get to BBG. The drive will be 1.5– 2.5 hours, depending on traffic.

Arrival: The Wedding is the 26th so we recommend arriving on Friday 25th (note that this is Matariki public holiday in NZ – you're welcome!) However if you're prone to jetlag, or flying Air NZ, you might want to come a day earlier.

Departure: We recommend staying until the 28th, to enjoy all the wedding events. But if you need to leave earlier, you can depart on the 27th and be back at work on Monday (sucks to be you).

If you want to make a longer holiday of it, we recommend a few days either in Ubud (1 hour north) where you can stay in luxurious villas amongst the rice paddies, or Uluwatu (1.5 hour south), home to Bali's best resorts and beach clubs. If you are staying longer, let us know – we might do the same (once we've gotten over the trauma of planning all of this).

Flights from NZ to Bali via Australia with Jetstar are $700 return when on special. There is a direct option on Air NZ for $1200 on sale.

Accommodation at the resort starts from $150 per night for 2 people, and includes breakfast. All the events listed on the wedding schedule are our shout.

All prices above are NZD

Hotels and restaurants accept cards, and if you use app services for taxis (e.g. Grab or Gojek) you can easily get through your holiday without any cash. However, if you want to go to markets, temples, or provide tips for service (see below) cash will come in handy.

Indonesian Rupiah are roughly 1000:1 with the New Zealand dollar. So if you see a fresh coconut for 20,000 on a menu, that’s NZ$2.

Some menus will drop the 000 (this will be noted on the small print at the bottom), in this case 150 is actually 150,000 or NZ$15.

Most passports, including NZ and Colombia, can get a visa on arrival. To short cut any airport queues we recommend applying online before you travel, and will send out more details on this closer to the time.

Yes – just don't drink the tap water! Bali belly is your main risk, but a few precautions (avoid tap water and local eateries) and you'll be fine.

Bali in June enjoys warm, sunny, and (hopefully!) dry weather, making it one of the best months to visit. Here’s what you can expect:

Temperature: 28– 31°C (82– 88°F) with overnight lows of 22°C / 72°F
Humidity: Moderate and comfortable
Rainfall: Hopes and prayers gratefully accepted
Sea conditions: consistent off-shore winds, perfect surfing or body boarding conditions

We don’t want to be too prescriptive, but we know our group photos will look amazing with a bit of a theme, so we ask you to wear light coloured clothing (even white is ok) and solid colours. No patterns or dark clothing please :)

It will be hot, so no need for suit jackets and definitely no ties, but let’s still keep it classy. Think dress shorts, not board shorts. Shoes that are suitable for on sand and for late night dancing 😊

Your presence at our wedding in Bali is the greatest gift we could ask for, and we do not expect anything more. We know the journey to join us is a significant one, and having you there to celebrate with us is what matters most.

For those who have expressed a wish to still give a gift, we are planning a special piece of art to commemorate our marriage, and will have a wishing well at the ceremony to go toward this.

Our vision is to have this piece hanging in our home as a lasting memory of our celebration and the people who shared it with us. We look forward to you seeing it and remembering the day together whenever you come to visit us in the future.

This day is special to us and we want to spend quality time connecting deeply with our closest friends. We ask that you leave the kids at home so that you will be able to be fully present and enjoy our time together.
